Australia Day Award for Jill Lindley

A few weeks ago, Jill Lindley received a letter from the Redland City Council advising that she had been nominated and was a finalist for an Australia Day Award, in the category of Local Hero Award.

She thought there must have been some mistake – however, eventually the truth was discovered. RHISG member, Lorna Riley was the quiet plotter of this nomination!!

On the 21st January, Lorna and friend and Jill & Peter attended the Council’s presentation dinner. Jill did not win the Local Hero Award – but she was awarded a ‘Highly Recommended’ certificate for her 30 years of supporting those with a hearing impairment, and involvement in the Redlands Hearing Impaired Support Group since it began in 2001.

You may have seen the photo in the local Redlands Bulletin. Jill did her best to quietly melt into the background, but the photographer kept saying “that small lady at the end there – we can’t see you – please come forward!”

Lorna has been a loyal, long time member of the RHISG, who maintains a positive attitude, though she has to cope with poor vision as well as hearing impairment. She is also a hero.
